Land and Governance

Under this program there were two projects being implemented in Turkana, namely;

  • Enhancing the Protection and Recognition of Community Land in Light of Oil Drilling in the Southern Part of Turkana County
  • Reducing Conflicts in Light of Oil Drilling in the Southern Part of Turkana County

In terms of strategies the two projects had sought to undertake community education, awareness and advocacy on Community Land Act, 2016 to ensure the statute is properly implemented. In addition, the project ensured the support of implementation of the Act through capacity building of communities so that they are able to claim and secure their communal land tenurial rights.

Progress made included policy influence which had been achieved through CSO meetings to validate legislative reviews carried out on the Community Land Act (CLA),2016. Other actions taken included compiling policy briefs on the gaps and issues within the CLA 2016, the draft rules and regulations accompanying the Act. Finally , KLA had supported representatives,(project beneficiaries from Turkana south sub county to participate in the formulation of the county’s integrated development Plan (CIDP) for 2018-2022
